Specification of symbols used on audio-tactile maps for individuals with blindness (ATMAPS)
The ATMAPS project will examine which information should be represented, in audio, tactile and in audio-tactile form. The specification of audio-tactile symbols will be applied on a wide spectrum of audio-tactile maps frequently used in education and training of Individuals with Visual Impairment (IVIs).
The project will also focus on the training of teachers of IVIs, Orientation & Mobility (O&M) trainers, rehabilitation specialists and designers of O&M aids for IVIs, in order for them to be able to construct audio-tactile maps. Moreover, among the main objectives of the project is to train IVIs on the use of audio-tactile maps.
